What It’s All About

The Road Not Taken

Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,

And sorry I could not travel both

And be one traveller, long I stood

And looked down one as far as I could

To where it bent in the undergrowth;

Then took the other, as just as fair,

And having perhaps the better claim,

Because it was grassy and wanted wear;

Though as for that the passing there

Had worn them really about the same,

And both that morning equally lay

In leaves no step had trodden black.

Oh, I kept the first for another day!

Yet knowing how way leads on to way,

I doubted if I should ever come back.

I shall be telling this with a sigh

Somewhere ages and ages hence:

Two roads diverged in a wood, and I—

I took the one less travelled by,

And that has made all the difference.

By Robert Frost

“That has made all the difference”, one of my favourite lines of poetry ever written. Ever since the day I heard it 3 years ago, It has remained embedded deep within my consciousness. It affects many of my decisions and therefore results.

This poem, those last two lines are the main influence of this blog. They are the foundations on which this blog is to be built upon, the manifesto of the blog if you may. I plan to share how this metaphorical choice is not just a poetic work of fiction. It is a very real option for all of us. It is a viable alternative to the rigid socially accepted path which we are told to follow. I believe that many people still don’t realise that there is a choice.

That’s why I am here. To hopefully show that you do not have to simply follow the path which society maps out for you, that there are alternatives if you wish to take a risk and become a maverick.

At all times keep in mind, that this personal journey which I am taking you on is very real and live. It is not my success story, it is not even story. It is simply regular updates and tips which I will pick up along the way, so that anyone who wishes to undertake a similar journey to mine has a slightly easier ride.

But of course, this is just my journey. This is not a one for all path, it is different for all of us. One person’s experience will be completely different to another persons and vice versa. Therefore, I am simply sharing my experience of taking “the path less travelled” and one day I will, with any luck, I will share “the difference” it made.

To give you a small bit of context. I am a 17-year-old, from Ireland. I am in my final year of secondary school (high school etc.). I recently quit a part-time job which I had been holding down for 20 months. I run 2 mini-business’s (which I will discuss in more detail in the future). Most importantly, I despise social norms and the current path which is set out for our generation (School->college->job->Retirement). Sure it may work for the majority of people, but It doesn’t work for me.

So, if you like the sound of any that, then stay tuned. I will be posting(hopefully!) every Monday, Wednesday and Saturday.

Thanks for your time and STAY TUNED,

Alan
